Men’s Olympic Football Tournament 2024: Draw, Fixtures & Preview

The men’s football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will be staged from Wednesday, July 24, to Friday, August 9.

The 16 competing nations are restricted to selecting under-23 players, with a maximum of three overage players allowed in their squads.

France, Argentina and Spain are the bookmakers’ favourites to win the gold medal and predicting which team will emerge victorious is no easy task.

Punters who have used recent betting offers for players located in the UK have been keen to back the hosts, with home advantage likely to work in their favour.

Men’s Olympic Football Tournament 2024 – Preview

With defending champions Brazil failing to qualify for the tournament, new Olympic champions will be crowned when the final is staged on August 9.

After drawing their opening two games in the final qualifying stage, Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 to seal second place in the group behind Paraguay.

Former Barcelona star Javier Mascherano will lead the Argentinians at the Olympics and will fancy his chances of guiding them to the gold medal.

Argentina won gold in 2004 and 2008, and it would be a major surprise if they failed to reach the latter stages of the tournament.

France will expect to be competitive on home soil and their talented squad should be capable of mounting a strong bid to win Olympic gold.

However, Thierry Henry has been underwhelming as a head coach, and his lack of tactical acumen could hinder their hopes.

Spain could be a more viable bet as they strive to demonstrate the depth of talent coming through their system.

Samu Omorodion, Alberto Moleiro and Cristhian Mosquera are among the players who have been touted as potential future superstars for Spain.

Head coach Santi Denia has yet to decide who makes his final squad, but Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya could be one of the overage players.

His inclusion would give Spain a solid foundation at the back, and they could be extremely tough to beat in France this summer.

The US, Morocco and Paraguay are outsiders who could spring a surprise or two, while it would be foolish to write off Japan’s chances of causing an upset.

However, the top three teams in the betting appeal as the most likely winners of the tournament, with Spain most fancied to get the job done.
